Historical
Origin of the entlebuch mountain dog
The entlebuch mountain dog is one of the four Swiss mountain dogs:
Bernese Mountain Dog
Grand Bouvier Suisse
Appenzell mountain dog
Entlebuch mountain dog
It comes from the Entlebuch valley on the territory of the cantons of Lucerne and Bern. Its first description under the name of "Entlibucherhund" dates from 1889, but for a long time still, no strict differences were made with the Appenzell Bouvier. It was Dr Kobler who promoted this almost extinct breed by founding the 1st club in 1926.
It was only in 1927 that Albert Heim wrote the first Bouvier d'Enlebuch standard.
The breed developed quite slowly and the numbers are still small today. But this attractive dog is enjoying increasing popularity as a family dog.
General appearance of the entlebuch mountain dog
The Entlebuch Bouvier is a compact dog, barely below the average size, slightly elongated in shape, tricolor like all Swiss Bouviers, his expression is frank, alert and gentle.
The coat is short, shiny and lying, the undercoat is dense. Dress with a black background with symmetrical markings of tan (above the eyes, on the cheeks, on the chest and on the legs) and white (on the muzzle, on the chest and at the end of the legs). The tail is long or short from birth.
His character is lively, confident, intrepid and cheerful. He is kind and loyal to familiars but slightly suspicious of strangers.
The Entlebuch Bouvier is the smallest of the four Swiss Bouviers, his fiery temperament makes him a bold, cunning, attentive and tireless sheepdog.
Its size at the withers is between 42 and 50 cm, its weight varies from 20 to 30 kg.
